Our Health Care

Our system of medical care and health insurance is broken and causing much suffering instead of security, comfort, and healing. Many of us are only one illness away from a bankruptcy which could force us to lose our homes, and cause our families to suffer. As a doctor, I am troubled by our high rate of newborn infant deaths (higher than in most other developed countries) and the suffering from heart attacks and amputations we see when diabetic patients cannot afford their medications.

I am running for the Oregon Senate to make the political changes we need to secure essential and affordable health care for all Oregonians, including the most vulnerable in our society, duch as children, the elderly,and low income individuals. I have the broad experience necessary to understand the problems of and to offer wise solutions for Oregon's health care crisis from being a physician, a patient, small business owner, hospital ethics committee member, and volunteer physician treating my community's uninsured.

As your Senator, I will not allow hospitals to charge the uninsured more than the insurance companies, and will look at cost-containment as a principle of ensuring long term access to health care

There must be no gaps in coverage, no cracks to slip through , and no denial for preexisting conditions.

I fully support the HEALTHY OREGON ACT, and have already submitted public testimony in your behalf to the Health Fund Board.
