Bob and family
After completing his residency training in Family Practice at the University of Utah in 1981, Bob moved his young family to Oregon, and established his medical practice in Mt. Angel, also filling the role of supervising physician for the newly established volunteer ambulance corps.

Bob joined the Mt. angel Oktoberfest Board of Directors in 1985, and served for the next 11 years, responsible for children's entertainment and significantly expanding the popular Arts and Crafts portion of the festival.

While on the Board of Directors, Bob had a vision of how Oktoberfest could increase its community philanthropy. He conceived of and with a coalition of other supportive board members, established the Mount Angel Community Foundation. It was created in 1995 to be a philanthropic community foundation charged with the mission of raising funds for projects benefiting the community.

The foundation now also provides management and tax exempt status for many community causes. The first of these was the Scholarship Endowment. In 1997, the Mount Angel Scholarship Endowment became a part of the foundation supported by donations from the general public, graduates of Mount Angel schools, the business community and Oktoberfest.

Now the foundation awards over $30,000 each year in 4-year scholarships to outstanding graduates of Mt. Angel's JFK High School.

The Mt. Angel Glockenspiel restaurant, business center, and low income apartment complex was financed through the foundation. Bob, true to his unflagging belief in education, supported a Library Building Fund in 2006. The Mount Angel Library opened its doors to the public on December1, 2007.

Bob has served as the president of the Mount Angel Community Foundation since its inception. From its humble, but inspired beginning 12 years ago, the Foundation has grown and is now responsible for almost $900,000, for community benefit.

Over the years Bob has established close ties to the Benedictine Sisters, greatly respecting their mission of service to the needy. Shortly after establishing his practice in Mount Angel, Bob agreed to be the "house doctor" for any and all patients with no doctor admitted to the Benedictine Nursing Center. Bob became well respected for his compassionate end of life care, and his patience and skill in communicating with anxious families. The Sisters were thankful to have Dr. Bob as a member of the BNC's Ethics Committee, and proud to have him serve on the Center's Board of Directors for many years.

Bob continues to help the Sisters fulfill their sacred mission as a volunteer at their St. Joseph's Shelter for the homeless.

Bob's thorough and insightful approach to problem solving was recognized by the Oregon Medical Association as they selected him to serve on their Medical Review Committee investigating patient complaints about their health care experience in Oregon.

Bob is currently a volunteer physician for the uninsured at the Silverton Community Outreach Clinic.

Health Care and Health Insurance are among the most important issues facing Oregonians this election year. Bob, continuing his with the experience in the field of medicine as doctor, patient, business owner and volunteer, is committed to solving these problems that affect each and every one of us, with the thoughtful and insightful attention they require.
